At OPT, we provide individualized and evidence-based speech therapy services for children. Our approach is centered around helping our clients achieve their communication goals and improve their quality of life. Evaluations are conducted by gathering information from parents and/or caregivers to recognize concerns about the child's development, academic participation, strengths, and areas of concern. In addition, standardized assessments are used to gather additional speech and language information for customized goals. Families and therapist work together to create an individualized treatment plan for fun and engaging therapy.
We offer a range of speech therapy services for children, including assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for various speech & language disorders, feeding/swallowing disorders and communication difficulties. We also provide early intervention services for infants and toddlers.
Feeding entails the process of eating or drinking, which involves preparing food and liquids for intake (chewing, sucking, swallowing). Swallowing entails transporting the food/liquid to the stomach. Feeding disorders can include impaired oral motor skills and/or oral sensory function. Some of the following behaviors may be observed during mealtime: refusing age-appropriate foods or liquids, restricted variety or quantity of foods and liquids, disruptive behavior, inadequate self-feeding skills, inability to use utensils, and/or insufficient growth. The SLP will gather information from parents/caregivers based on the family's cultural background, dietary preferences, dietary aversions, medical history, developmental history, and concerns. We encourage families to bring preferred and non-preferred food items for the evaluation.
Feeding and swallowing therapy incorporates developmentally appropriate approaches to ensure safe and adequate nutrition and hydration. We collaborate with the family to maximize the child's fullest potential, reduce disruptive behaviors during mealtime, improve sensory motor skills, and promote confidence during meal time.
Our team of licensed and certified speech-language pathologists have extensive experience and training in the field of speech therapy. We are dedicated to providing our clients with the highest quality of care and support. Direct intervention consists of activities that are developmentally supportive, family centered, and comprehensive. Treatment approaches are comprised of both child-centered and clinician-directed for effective progress. Therapy sessions consist of movement, games, music, crafts, and technology. The goal of therapy is to make life long progress, all while having FUN!
The goal of treatment is to improve the child's social communication skills for developing relationships and to actively participate in social settings during everyday life. Therapy targets improving spontaneous communication in functional activities, engaging in turn taking communication interactions, and generalizing skills across multiple activities, environments, and communication partners.
Teletherapy is an online option provided to our OPT families. Teletherapy is always an option for families unable to make in-person appointments; due to scheduling conflicts, inclement weather, illness in the family, etc. Sessions will be conducted on a secure online platform conducive for engaging and interactive activities. Teletherapy incorporates online games, engaging activities, movement, screen sharing, and much more. Teletherapy allows families access to speech therapy without the commute from the comfort of their own home.
