Yes. OPT believes that a collaboration and a multidisciplinary effort between the child, family and other providers (teachers, therapists, physicians) help to achieve the highest level of success. We have completed continuing education and ongoing training opportunities related to autism treatment.
Your therapist will provide "homework" to work on throughout your week between sessions. It may come in the form of worksheets or sets of exercises to encourage your child to practice their learned skills.
The frequency and duration of treatment will be determined following the evaluation. Treatment sessions are reoccurring and typically occur on the same day each week. Sessions often last 30 minutes in length and frequency is between 1-3 times per week.
A language disorder is impaired comprehension and/or use of spoken, written and/or other symbol system. Language disorders can present in limited vocabulary, using single words or short phrases, difficulty asking and answering questions, difficulty following directions, difficulty reading and writing, poor comprehension of narratives, difficulty initiating play with peers, difficulty understanding others, etc.
A feeding disorder can occur at one or more of three phrases (oral phase, pharyngeal phase, esophageal phase). Your child may have a feeding disorder if they become fussing or cry when feeding, have trouble breathing while eating/drinking, refuse to eat or drink, only eat certain textures, have problems chewing, cough or gag during meals, excessive drool or have liquid come out of mouth or nose, not gaining weight or growing.
